  • The integrated facility at Sikka, Jamnagar, pairs a 600-MTPD phosphoric acid plant with a 1,800-MTPD sulfuric acid plant to support captive feedstock for phosphatic fertilizers.
  • Tata Projects has secured an EPC contract from GSFC to build an integrated phosphoric acid–sulfuric acid complex at Sikka, Jamnagar, comprising 600-MTPD and 1,800-MTPD plants with utilities and offsite infrastructure. GSFC presents the project as backward integration aimed at securing captive raw material for phosphatic fertilizers and reducing exposure to imported inputs.

Tata Projects Ltd., the Mumbai-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company and a member of the Tata Group, has secured an EPC contract from Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC; Vadodara, India) for an integrated phosphoric acid–sulfuric acid (PA–SA) complex at Sikka, Jamnagar, Gujarat. The company described the award as an important milestone in its expansion into specialized process industries and as a reinforcement of its position as an EPC partner for complex industrial infrastructure.

The proposed complex will comprise a 600 metric tons per day (MTPD) phosphoric acid plant and a 1,800 MTPD sulfuric acid plant, along with associated utilities and offsite infrastructure. GSFC is developing the project as a key component of its strategic expansion and backward-integration program, which is designed to strengthen captive raw-material availability for phosphatic fertilizer production, reduce exposure to imported inputs and enhance long-term operational resilience.

Scope and execution

The contract covers integrated development of the phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid manufacturing facilities, supported by the necessary utilities and offsite systems. Because the two operations are interdependent, the company said, successful delivery will require close coordination across engineering disciplines, procurement, construction planning and commissioning interfaces. Tata Projects is positioning its integrated EPC approach as central to managing those complexities while supporting efficient project delivery.

Company view

Rajiv Menon, president and chief growth and strategy officer at Tata Projects, said the award was built on sustained engagement with GSFC and demonstrated the company's ability to compete for and secure complex industrial projects through differentiated solutions and a compelling value proposition. As the company expands its presence in chemicals, fertilizers and other specialized process industries, he said, its priority remains building a high-quality, diversified order book anchored in technical expertise, execution credibility and enduring customer partnerships.

Portfolio focus

For Tata Projects, the contract represents a strategic advance in its process-industry business and further strengthens its capabilities in delivering technically demanding industrial facilities. The award also advances its strategy of expanding across high-value industrial segments, complementing established capabilities in power, metals and mining, oil and gas, clean energy and advanced manufacturing. By deepening its participation in chemicals and fertilizers, the company aims to broaden its process-engineering expertise, diversify its industrial portfolio and create sustained value through technically differentiated EPC solutions.

The announcement did not disclose the contract value, construction schedule or targeted completion date for the complex.
